Emergency Appeal: Camp Fires Devastate Makeshift Homes in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh A devastating fire broke out at block-H of Rohingya camp no-1 located at Lombashiaghona in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh on May 12, 2020 resulting in around 100 makeshift houses being gutted and a total of 600 makeshift homes being destroyed. Screams and shouts resonated throughout the area as an already struggling Rohingya refugee community sought safety. HHRD is working with vetted partner NGOs in the area to provide emergency relief to those affected.

 All funds raised for 'Burmese Relief Fund' will exclusively be designated towards the Burmese Relief projects; after fundraising and administrative expenses.

Assisting the needy

HHRD has been assisting the needy in Myanmar since 2008 and scaled up its assistance during the August 2017 mass migration. Through the Rohingya Relief Fund, and with the help of vetted partner NGOs, humanitarian assistance has been provided with the deployment of several Emergency Response Teams from the USA as they conduct needs assessments.

1.2 Million Rohingya Refugees in Need

Since 1978, the Rohingya have faced decades of systematic discrimination, statelessness and targeted violence in the Rakhine State, Myanmar. August 2017, ushered in the largest and fastest refugee exodus into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh where an estimated 745,000 Rohingya reside in what has become the world’s largest refugee camp.

With an uncertain future, the Rohingya remain in an extremely perilous situation. These refugees remain tremendously vulnerable, living in exceedingly challenging conditions, and dependent on aid for their survival.

  • Water For Life: Washrooms and deep water wells are provided for drinking, cooking, and washing with clean water. Hygiene kits and workshops help to keep clean in these living conditions.
  • In Kind Gifts: Containers, 40 feet long, filled with clothing, bedding, and medical supplies are delivered to Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh for Rohingya Refugees. Previous
  • Shelter Homes: Each home has two rooms, a balcony and is made with material to sustain high winds and rains. Homes are provided with solar powered electric fixtures and can house a family of 6.
  • Seasonal Programs: Families receive Ramadan food packages that feed a family of 6 for the month, Eid ul Fitr gifts and Qurbani meat. In the winter, warm clothing and supplies help those who struggle with their limited resources.
  • Child Care Centers: 660, mostly orphaned children, in 3 Child Care Homes learn prayers, eat nourishing meals, study Mathematics, English, Science, Quran, and Burmese.
