Severe wind gusts, up to 45 miles per hour, and torrential rains have caused widespread flooding across Casablanca, Tangiers, Tetouan, Berrechid, and Beni Mellal, Morocco in this month of January. Flood waters have damaged residential buildings, public facilities, roads, tunnels and tramway vehicles.

Helping Hand USA has launched its “Morocco Relief Fund”, with the assistance of credible vetted partners in Morocco, our HHRD Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team from Jordan will assist 300 families with food and household items in North and South Lahraouyine.

HHRD’s Immediate Emergency Relief Operations

 

 

Extensive damages for thousands of families, due to these exceptional floods and rainfalls, will require immediate distribution of basic food items as well as, mattresses and blankets. HHRD’s goal is to provide a minimum of 300 families, or over 1,500 people, with essentials to survive the next few weeks. Your support will help a family who has lost everything regain a sense of hope.

Situation on the Ground

 

With 3.36 million people Casablanca, the economic capital of the country, has been badly flooded and residents remain distressed. Lahraouyine, in the province of Mediouna, is a city located on the outskirts of Casablanca, where 65,785 residents are affected by the flooding. The month of January has shown torrential rain and continuous floods.
