Emergency Appeal: Pakistan Floods

As of August 26th, 2020, three days of heavy monsoon rains across Karachi Pakistan have claimed the lives of 90 people while damaging over a thousand homes. Images shared from residents show streets and homes flooded with water and sewage. The threat of electrocution from downed powerlines and water-borne disease loom overhead as heavy rains continue to devastate the area.

Helping Hand for Relief and Development’s Pakistan team is on location in the province of Sindh in the areas of Karachi as well as the Dadu District in inner Sindh. They are providing door to door assistance to families with food packages and clean drinking water.  HHRD’s Mobile Clinic is also providing medical assistance in Dadu.

Countless families are seeking shelter with loved ones as rain is forecasted for the week ahead. Rains coupled with the spread of coronavirus raise concerns of so many being in such close quarters. Many are reporting major roadways and bridges being blocked by stagnant water and sewage therefore making it more difficult for residents to go home or to work.

As our HHRD Pakistan team continues to conduct needs assessment we ask for your support towards our South Asian Flood Relief Fund to provide packages of food, water, medicines and hygiene kits to those in need.
